By the end of the weekend, over 2,000 people had attended this long-awaited event. The dealers were thrilled with their sales at the show and the event drew a large number of new and younger buyers. “This was particularly exciting for us, seeing the next generation of antiques collectors come out to learn and shop. THE ATLANTIC CITY ANTIQUES SHOW ANNOUNCES

Atlantic City, NJ — Allison Kohler, President of JMK Shows, announced on April 7th that the Atlantic City Antiques Show would permanently be moving to the new Waterfront Conference Center at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the harbor, Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center is the largest, most technologically advanced facility between Baltimore to Boston. After several exciting meetings, Kohler knew this was the perfect new home for this long-running and very important antiques event. “This has been a long and challenging journey to arrive here,” said Kohler. “The past couple of years have certainly tested my tenacity but I was resolute, despite the venue issues, to ensure for the dealers and antiques collectors, that this jewel of a show would sustain and continue to thrive.”
Over the past few years, Kohler faced challenges with scheduling and the facility itself at the Atlantic City Convention Center which had been its home for so many years. In 2014, she was thrilled to have finally found what she thought would be the new permanent home for the show, the Mark Etess Arena at the Trump Taj Mahal. “This was a fabulous venue for us so when I received the news in October that the ‘Taj’ would be closing, I was devastated. But, I knew, with timing not on my side, I had to secure an alternate location for the spring 2015 show. So I made the decision to go back to the Convention Center even though the dates available were a bit later than I would have liked. I was determined to make it work.” The later April dates proved to be a problem for so many of the dealers in the show. Scheduling conflicts with other events they had already booked, would have made this event less than the caliber it has always been. “I had to make one of the most difficult decisions in my career, to cancel the April 2015 show, but I didn’t have a choice. I knew that I had to keep my eye on the big picture for my dealers, the show and the industry overall. In my heart, I knew this was the right decision and that this short-term inconvenience would result in long-term benefits.”
Kohler went on to say that, “The antiques industry, and shows in particular, have faced challenges over the past several years. I know how frustrating this is for attendees and dealers to have events switched, cancelled — it can easily undermine the faith and confidence it a promoter. Quite honestly, there are probably promoters in the country who would have ‘thrown in the towel’ but that is not who I am or what JMK Shows is about. The antiques industry is in my blood, it’s a passion for me and event promotion is what I do.”
The Atlantic City Antiques Show has two upcoming events scheduled at the Waterfront Conference Center at Harrah’s. The first will be the fall 2015 event to be held November 21 & 22, 2015 at the height of fall antiquing season with the spring show scheduled for March 12 & 13, 2016. “With the movement of the November Pier Show to an earlier date, it gave us one of the biggest antique shopping weekends of the year to debut our fall event. And with the uncertainty surrounding the March Pier Show, dealers are already clamoring to sign on for both shows. We’re home at last!” said Kohler. “Back to two shows, fall and spring, and in the most spectacular location possible.”
Allison Kohler and JMK Shows would like to express their sincere apologies to everyone that has been affected by this year’s turn of events. “It’s deeply affected all of us but I look forward to opening the doors on November 21st to a most amazing event at our new home!”
The Atlantic City Antiques Show is produced by JMK Events. The Atlantic City Convention Center is located at One Convention Boulevard in Atlantic City, NJ. Atlantic City, NJ — JMK Shows has announced that the 2015 Spring Atlantic City Antiques Show would be proudly returning to the Atlantic City Convention Center with the new Spring dates of Saturday and Sunday, April 11th and 12th. This annual major antiques event was originally scheduled for March 21 and 22 at the Trump Taj Mahal, Mark Etess Arena. As Atlantic City embarks on exciting changes to their popular casino landscape, JMK made the important decision to return to the venue that has worked well for so many years. Allison Kohler, President of JMK Shows, said in an interview, “We really loved being at the Tump Taj Mahal last year. The venue was wonderful and the staff was amazing and we would consider in the future returning when all the redevelopment is complete but, at the core of what JMK Shows is about, we are a producer of some of the longest running and successful antiques events in the country. So, whether the Atlantic City Antiques Show is held at the Taj or at the Convention Center, the most important goal is that one of the nation’s most respected antiques show is held in a venue befitting the level and importance of this event. The Atlantic City Convention Center certainly fits that bill to a “T” and then some so I am both proud and excited to take this event back to where it has been wonderfully successful for so many years. Its about the incredible exhibitors and the devoted antiquers, that’s what this is about.”
Kohler also commented that she is very pleased that JMK Shows was able to move the Spring Show dates into April and that the Convention Center was able to accommodate her request. “I’m very happy that the show will be held April 11 and 12, a week after Easter and more solidly into the beautiful spring weather at the shore. With the climate changing and winters increasing across the country, March has just become too unpredictable, trending to ice storms and winter weather.”
The Atlantic City Convention Center is also solidly committed to helping support and promote this granddaddy of antiques events and is delighted for its return. The Convention Center is a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for major events of this kind so it’s a win-win for everyone.
In a final comment, Kohler said, “JMK Shows is a New Jersey based company and, not only are we committed to the antiques industry, but we are also committed to supporting New Jersey and Atlantic City. New Jersey has been through a lot over the past few years, so, as a producer of major events in my beautiful state, I am committed to support New Jersey and Atlantic City as it evolves and redevelops itself. That’s very exciting for me and I’m am honored to play a role in it!”

Edison, NJ — JMK Shows is very excited to announce their newest and most innovative concept in their line of antiques show, Decorating with Antiques. This new three-day antiques event, which will be held March 6-8, 2015 at the New Jersey Convention Center, will be a special new feature of the New Jersey Home Show, New Jersey’s largest event of its kind.
This exciting new association between Allison Kohler, owner of JMK Shows and Eric Udler, owner of the New Jersey Home Show, was an outgrowth of their mutual attendance at a trade event where they had the opportunity to talk extensively and exchange exciting new ideas. Kohler, who is known for her steadfast commitment to both sustaining but, more importantly growing the antiques market, saw what could be an incredible opportunity to promote the buying and collecting of antiques and collectibles to Udler’s powerful home show audience. Udler, at the same time, was looking for a new and exciting feature to add to his very successful New Jersey Home Show. And thus it was born — Decorating With Antiques — a 15,000 to 20,000 square foot special feature showcasing the finest in antiques and collectibles, all set in walled and room settings — inside the New Jersey Home Show.
“It was a natural fit,” said Eric Udler. “Our thousands of attendees come to the event looking for products for both outside and inside their homes. They are looking to renovate, update and redecorate. To be able to offer this new, very rich feature, will be an exciting addition to the event overall and will open up a whole new world of decorating and renovating ideas.”
For Allison Kohler, “This is likely the most innovative presentation of an antiques show to ever come long. In today’s antiques buying market, one of the greatest challenges we face is to reach out to new buyers and present them and educate them about how beautiful incorporating antiques can be in even the most contemporary of homes.” She went on to say that, “antiques add instant history and soul to a home, just one piece has the ability to bring the richness of the past alive in the present.”
From architectural antiques that can add incredible beauty to exteriors to perhaps a genuine Stickley hammered copper Arts & Crafts chandelier that can add a stunning accent over a contemporary dining table to something as whimsical as lovely French bowl that adds a taste of 19th century Paris to the granite topped kitchen — the inspiration for interior and exterior décor is endless.
Educating new buyers and collectors of antiques has always been a passion for Kohler. Visitors will have the chance to learn from the antiques exhibitors about the origins the finest designs from decades and centuries past. As an example, people with a passion for modern and streamlined interiors might be quite captivated to see a real Herman Miller or Charles Eames furniture design — talk about bringing the past alive in the present. Makes the reproductions pale in comparison.
JMK Shows looks forward to working closely with the New Jersey Home Show in promoting this exciting new opportunity for antiques exhibitors and buyers. The New Jersey Home Show draws over 30,000 attendees and showcases over 300 exhibitors featuring state-of-the-art products and services for you home including pools, spas, gardens, home renovators and now, antiques and collectibles.
Decorating With Antiques will feature over 50 antiques and collectibles exhibitors and will be held inside the New Jersey Home Show will be held March 6-8, 2015 at the New Jersey Convention Center, 97 Sunfield Avenue, Edison, NJ 08837.
Hours for the show will be Friday, 3pm to 8pm; Saturday, 10am to 7pm; Sunday, 10am to 5pm. For more information, please visit www.jmkshows.com or www.homeshowexpo.com

Succusunna, NJ — On Monday, June 9, 2014, Allison Kohler, President, JMK Shows, announced that she was delighted as well as honored to begin working with the Rhinebeck Antiques Fairs as an associate in promoting and helping take the 38 year success of the Fairs to exciting new levels and new directions.
An outgrowth of the Antiques Summit, a PSMA conference of antiques show promoters held in Richmond (VA) in May, Kohler and the producers of the Rhinebeck Antiques Fair, spent extensive time discussing the challenges they face in sustaining the shows they produce and conceptualizing new promoting techniques to ensure the Rhinebeck Antiques Fairs continue to thrive and become bigger and better then ever.
“The Rhinebeck Antiques Fairs have always been a destination event and an important show,” said Kohler, “and I am very excited about the opportunity to work with them in taking this event back to full capacity while bringing in a number of new genres and appealing to the masses. As a team, our goal is to create an event that will showcase a much broader variety and mixed genres of antiques and collectibles. This will enrich the experience for both shoppers and dealers alike.
Kohler, who produces over a dozen antiques shows each year, is no stranger to the energy and creativity it requires to ensure antiques events remain and continue be the best they can for both dealers and shoppers alike. “It’s a win-win for all of us. I am honored to be working with this exceptional organization and look forward to being part of a group that will create the new and exciting Rhinebeck Antiques Fairs. It’s very important that we, as antiques show promoters, share our knowledge, our successes and our esprit du corps with each other so that all of our shows continue to thrive and attract new antique collectors and dealers. Antiques are not just about unique and older things to collect and buy, it’s about history and education and it’s about being as green as we can be.”
In addition, Kohler will be incorporating JMK’s successful social media and digital marketing strategies she utilizes into reaching new and younger buyers and collectors which is so critical in today’s market and the Rhinebeck Antiques Fair.
Allison Kohler will be working with the Rhinebeck Antiques Fairs but will continue to produce and grow her successful JMK Shows and Events.

Atlantic City, NJ — JMK Shows is very honored to announce that Bertoia Auctions of Vineland, NJ, will be showcasing a world-class exhibit of museum-quality antique toys at the March 8th and 9th Atlantic City Antiques Show. Regarded world-wide as the premier auction house and experts in antique toys and banks, this exhibit is being personally curated by owner and co-founder Jeanne Bertoia with many of the amazing pieces coming from her personal collection as well as other prominent private collections. The opportunity to view these "works of art in toys" will be a once in a lifetime chance for many.
In conversations with both Rich and Jeanne Bertoia, the passion and extensive knowledge they possess for this genre of antiques is both infectious and inspiring. "Antique toys, particularly the very finest examples from the 19th and early 20th centuries, are a journey through American history through the eyes of the children at that time."
Among the important and historic examples that will be in the exhibit titled "Antique Toys — A Retrospective," will be an extremely rare circa 1902 Marklin Ferris Wheel (PHOTO 1). Coming from the private collection of Jeanne Bertoia, this particular toy features six (6) exquisitely carved and painted gondolas and center box with musical movement.
Between the years of 1890 and 1930, this German toy manufacturer was considered the best in the world. They employed the best designers, painters and even engineers to create toys that were owned by the very wealthy and/or the very royal.
Also from Jeanne Bertoia's private collection will be an absolutely charming very rare blue-robed Father Christmas (PHOTO 2) which was actually a store window display in a German shop in the 1890s. This work of art stands 29 inches and the tree limb is actually made of feathers which have survived in exquisite condition these many years.
From a private collection, a set of three Dent oversized fire toys (PHOTO 2) truly are a glimpse into the culture and history of America at the time. Originally founded in 1894 as The Dent Hardware Company, in 1898, Henry Dent, a man of vision and innovation, began creating the finest cast-iron toys ever made. Known also for their extremely large size, measuring between 23" and 33", these three examples are the largest horse-drawn examples of this kind. Each toy is an exact replica of the horse-drawn fire equipment that was used.
Rounding this exhibit will be several fine examples of pre-WWII American toys as well as a grouping of character toys from the 1920s through the 1940's. There will also be cast iron mechanical banks, a particular specialty of Bertoia. These mechanical banks, while classified as toys at the time, were actually educational for the children as a tool to learn about money and saving it.
Finishing the exhibit will be American tin toys from the turn of the century and toy trains from the early 20th century.
The March 2014 Atlantic City Antiques Show is going "Back to the Boardwalk," being held at the Trump Taj Mahal. Not only is this a venue befitting the exceptional antiques, fine art and collectibles that will be offered by the exhibitors, it is also the perfect venue to showcase this museum-class exhibit of some of the rarest and finest antique toys in the world.
The Atlantic City Antiques Show is produced by JMK Events. The Trump Taj Mahal is located at 1000 Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ. Show hours are Saturday, March 8th, 10 a.m to 6 p.m. (Early buying available Saturday, 9am to 10am) and Sunday, March 9th, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please contact Allison Kohler at JMK Shows and Events, 6 Pilgrim Drive, Succasunna, New Jersey 07876; (973) 927-2794 or cell (973) 224-2797; or visit www.jmkshows.com.

Over 80 antiques and vintage dealers will be exhibiting at the magnificent Birchwood Manor Antiques Show in Whippany, NJ on July 27th and 28th. This is the longest-running show in New Jersey, and continues its tradition of showcasing a variety of merchandise, including American, European and Asian furniture; silver; paintings; prints and posters; art pottery and art glass; porcelain and pottery; lamps; bronzes; clocks; Victorian and Depression glass; jewelry; Oriental rugs; books (both antiquarian and reference); scientific instruments; vintage fashion; Oriental specialists; linens; and probably anything else you are looking for.
Along with the great selection of antiques and vintage items, there will be expert glass repair on both Saturday and Sunday with Wade Nulton. Nulton repairs glasses, bowls, marbles, vases, glass paperweights and other items. He also has a technique for cleaning sick glass, which is glass that has become stained or fogged; he even can clean the insides of decanters.
Another restorer who will be at the show to help you with your broken pieces will be Louis Pirrello. He does superior quality restoration and repair of fine porcelain, ceramics, pottery and china. Pirrello is also able to restore damages to chalkware, early stoneware, composition, papier-mâché, ivory, and jade. He will be present to consult with clients on both Saturday and Sunday.
Philip Chasen will be bringing American and French Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass and lamps, including works by Daum Nancy, Galle and Tiffany Studios. Some examples will be a gorgeous Tiffany lily lamp, a vivid Daum Nancy Fall scenic vase and a very rare original Louis Icart etching, "Happy Birthday".
Christoph*Lynn Antiques will be sharing his booth with Steve Morrow Antiques, and he will have a selection of Loetz art glass. Steve specializees French cameo glass. Chris is coming all the way from Lee's Summit, MO, and Steve is from Hedrick, IA. This is their first time doing show, and they look forward to giving this a try.
Saddle River Gallery of Upper Saddle River, specializes in 19th and 20th Century French Post Impressionist and Modern Art. Partners Camille Calabrese and Nissan Haber have been in business about 15 years. This will be their first time at show. "We are excited because this is our first local show," Camille said. "We had a gallery in Englewood, but we closed it, so we want people to know that we are still around and selling art." They deal with both living and dead artists. They focus on high end art but they also have things in a more modest price range, mostly works of living artists. They will definitely bring some works by H. Claude Pissarro, who was the grandson of Camille Pissarro. They will also bring a few prints and watercolors. "We are service oriented; we will go to our clients' home and help to hang, we like to have customers return to us," Camille stated.
Tutto dal Mondo, from Penn Valley, PA, will also be exhibiting at the show, with old English silver from the Georgian period through the 1920s, Victorian jewelry, Deco jewelry, an extensive collection of Bakelite, and advertising items, including unusual old tins, and larger pieces such as a counter display for Pond's creams, which is very colorful. Sheila Parish is the proprietor of this firm, and had exhibited at Birchwood for several years, then stopped, for a while, but she came back last year and did very well, saying that she was very pleased with the results. An example of her Victorian jewelry is a beautiful 18 Ct. Gold Victorian necklace from England in excellent condition. It is a strong and intricate design and has a medieval sense. An example of her Bakeite is this beautiful Butter Chocolate colored Lotus Carved Bakelite Bangle in excellent condition, with no cracks or chips, and having amazing carving. According to Parish, "This is a collector's dream."
Marvin Baer of The Ivory Tower is a specialist in Oriental antiques, especially Satsuma. His pieces are featured in Imari, Satsuma and Other Japanese Exports published by Schiffer in 1997. He also carries other Japanese and Asian antiques. He has been in business for 35 years, since 1978. He has exhibited at Birchwood since its inception, probably around 1979, a year after he started his antiques business. . Originally the show was at the Meadowbrook, then moved to Birchwood Manor around 1979. It's a standard show for him, meaning that he always counts on enough business to warrant coming back. Marvin's son Matthew has been in business with him for last 18 years. Matt had another career before that; he was captain of a fishing boat, but his dad twisted his arm to come into business and Matt never looked back. He loves the business as much as his dad. "With any new clients I make sure that they deal with Matt because he is the future of the business," Marvin said.
Gardner Burke specializes in French, European and American porcelain from the late 19th-early 20th centuries. The two partners are sisters, and their porcelains are primarily hand painted porcelain. This will be their 10th year at Birchwood, and they will be bringing some big decorator pieces, especially Limoges, Belleek and Picard.
Gem de la Gem, a jewelry specialist, sells everything from costume to fine jewelry, dating from the 1920s to contemporary. Hailing from Teaneck NJ, Shahn Rosler has had the business since 1972, and she has done the Birchwood show for 20 years. "Allison took over her parents' business, I took over my parents business," she quipped. She also sell designer handbags and Hermes scarves. Pictured is a stunning onyx and coral link bracelet with diamond accents with an approximate diamond weight of 2cts.
This is just a sampling of the variety of treasures that will be available at the not-to-be-missed Birchwood Manor Antiques Show. The show is fully air conditioned and has wonderful restaurant on premises. More information can be found at www.jmkshows.com.

However, changing times, troubled economy, having to deal with multiple unions, and a myriad of other circumstances have led many to request that the show MOVE BACK TO THE BOARDWALK!
Well, the request has been heard and acted upon!! It is with great pleasure that JMK Shows announces that the spectacular Trump Taj Mahal will be the new home of the long running Atlantic City Antique Show. The first show is already scheduled, and will take place on March 8 & 9, 2014. "We feel partnering with the prestigious Trump name and brand is the perfect fit and image for our Antique Show," states Allison Kohler, President of JMK Shows. The Trump name is synonymous with luxury and quality. "We are thrilled about moving to the boardwalk, which puts us within walking distance of several major hotels, casinos, and attractions and in the direct line of thousands of people." The Taj Mahal is equally excited about hosting the show and having this event become part of their calendar and entertainment roster. Their marketing department will be working in conjunction with JMK to promote the show to all their customers at their Hotels and Casinos. They will be providing Billboard support, direct mail, emails blasts, special offers and giveaways, as well as discounted rates at the hotel. All their Signature and Chairmen members will be given complimentary access to the Antique Show with their Trump One cards.
In addition to the above, the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority with the Atlantic City Alliance also just launched a $20 million advertising campaign and will focus on the variety of events taking place in the city to go along with their much heralded DO AC campaign. JMK is also in the works to bring a special exhibit to the show along with a number of special features.
The show will be held in the Mark Etess Arena and will have 230 exhibit booths. The facility is a drive in building, which will allow the exhibitors the ease of load in and out. Parking is also much more affordable at $5 per day, as is the electrical cost per booth. The Arena is connected to the Casino and puts the antiques show right in the middle of all the action. There are over 20 restaurants on the property, with something to accommodate everyone's tastes. So whether you seek 5 star quality from the fabulous Roberts Steakhouse, casual dining at The Hard Rock Café, or just a visit with a barista at Starbucks, the Taj Mahal is the place to be. There will be a number of special perks available throughout the property for all exhibitors to enhance their stay, including discounts at the restaurants to those presenting their exhibitors badges. There will also be 2 weekend package giveaways from the Taj Mahal, one to the exhibitors and one to a lucky customer. The discounted hotel rates can be found on the JMK web site, www.jmkshows.com where you can also find the floor plan for the show. Most of the rooms offer an exhilarating ocean view!
Exhibitors who wish to participate in this show should contact JMK right away. Contracts will be available within the week and due to the completed floor plan you can get your booth assignment and booth number right away. Memo to Husbands, Lovers, and Boyfriends. "We women love our toys, just like you do yours. When we see a beautiful handbag that speaks to us and you tell us we don't need it, or lets go, you are denying some of the small pleasures that we so enjoy. Women really don't like having to smuggle in our treasures or tell you this was in the closet. Men, listen up! We love our girl toys, so make it a point to acknowledge us and appreciate our passions. We consciously recognize your passions, so please accept ours. Start with a beautiful handbag. We would like to give thanks to a few good guys who willingly champion our interests in fashion. We hope somewhere in time that more of you will understand our quirks.
Marco will also have a booth at the show, with his many early Vuitton pieces.
On a more serious note, Jim Dolph of JSD Antiques of Durham, New Hampshire, will be exhibiting with his specialty of Asian Antiques. He has done the Northern Virginia Show many times, and said that it is "generally successful." His varied inventory includes primarily Chinese and Japanese objects, but he also handles Indian and Thai items. In his booth you will find an array of bronzes, ivory, cloisonné, jade, netsukes, snuff bottles, and Chinese period ceramics including Sung and Tang pieces with a little bit of Ming. He will also be showing some Neolithic jades which are 3000-5000 years old. Jim was initially a collector, but has been dealing for about 15 years.
Also bringing Asian antiques is Worldwide Gallery of Fredericksburg, VA. In business for 42 years, they specialize Chinese and Japanese items primarily made for the western market during the 18th and 19th centuries. Additionally they deal in netsuke and their accoutrements and 20th century Japanese woodblock prints. Don Ourecky from Antiques by Mah Jong will be showing Chinese and Japanese export wares including Canton porcelain, Imari and Kutani ceramics, Rose Canton, and Rose Medallion.
A fine assortment of period English dining furniture will be found in the booth of Roger D. Winter Ltd of Bucks County, PA. Specializing in two, three, and four pedestal dining tables, the firm also carries sets of chairs, sideboards, and accessories for the dining room. All pieces are period, and are mostly English and American.
This exciting show will offer something for everyone. Additionally, Wade Nulton will be offering glass repairs and Linda Roberts will be offering certified appraisals for a modest fee of $5 per item. Roberts is a certified appraiser and a member of the ISA (International Society of Appraisers) and has over 20 years experience. Allison Kohler of JMK Shows is pleased to announce an exciting new jewelry show in New York City on January 19th and 20th, 2013. This is an ideal date for a new show, as it is the first weekend of “Antiques Week,” New York’s celebration of antiques and fine art that takes place every January. The elegant venue for the show will be the Pratt Mansions Fifth Avenue, which is located directly across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and faces Central Park. Consisting of three separate mansions from the late 19th century, they have been carefully preserved and interconnected on the inside to create a beautiful series of rooms. The interior of this graceful Belle Epoch landmark structure has a varied and stylish assortment of settings, from a sweeping staircase to a wood-paneled receiving room, an elegant ballroom, and a lovely formal parlor. What better venue for a glittering jewelry show in the middle of winter?
Featured will be 25 vendors showing magnificent antique, estate, vintage, costume and designer jewelry. In addition there will be some ladies’ accessories, such as handbags and other feminine fancies on display.
The reason for holding the show, according to Kohler, is that “I always have an abundance of jewelry dealers asking to participate in my events. When I added the April New York City show at the Bohemian National Hall, the jewelry dealers were calling me to see if I had any booths available. Because I didn’t want more than a few jewelry dealers in that show, I decided to initiate an all-jewelry show. I think that holding it during the first weekend of Antiques Week in New York is a great way for people to start their shopping week.” She went on to explain that she had been aware of this fabulous facility while researching sites for future shows. She also found out that another show promoter had been running some jewelry shows in New York, but had gone out of business. “There is a need on the part of both the customer and the exhibitor for this type of event, and we saw a window of opportunity, and are thrilled to be filling this need,” she concluded. The show will be held 2 times a year, with a second date in November.
Pratt Mansions Fifth Avenue is located at 1027 Fifth Avenue in New York City. Show hours are Saturday, January 19th, 11-7 and Sunday, January 20th, 11-5. For more information, please contact Allison Kohler at JMK Shows and Events, 6 Pilgrim Drive

The Alexandria Antiques Show will be returning to the George Washington Masonic Memorial under the management of JMK Shows. This will be the second year that the bi-annual show is in the hands of the capable Allison Kohler, a dynamic and hard-working young promoter. 31 nationally prominent antiques dealers will be displaying their wares in room settings, with a great diversity of merchandise. There will be one dealer in oriental rugs, one jewelry dealer, one silver specialist, one print dealer, as well as Russian icons, Asian antiques, furniture, fine art, and decorative arts.
The setting for the show is appropriate for a fine antiques show. As stated on their website, their vision is: "To inspire humanity through education to emulate and promote the virtues, character and vision of George Washington, the Man, the Mason and Father of our Country." The George Washington Masonic Memorial was built in the 1920s by the more than two million American Freemasons who wished to: “Express in durability and beauty the undying esteem of the Freemasons of the United States for him in whose memory it shall stand throughout the coming years.”
The building is more than a tourist attraction and destination; it is also a research center and library; community center, performing arts center and concert hall; banquet and celebration site; and meeting site for local and countless visiting Masonic lodges and organizations. However, first and foremost, it is a memorial to honor and perpetuate the memory, character and virtues of the man who best exemplifies what Freemasons are and ought to be, Brother George Washington.
Kohler carries on the tradition of integrity and high values in her administration of this show, having dealers who are well respected in their fields, and always seeking the finest examples available to offer the public with a full guarantee.
A first time exhibitor at the show is Lisa Gaffney of Sharon, CT, who specializes in Art Nouveau ceramics; primarily on French and Austrian pieces with a focus on naturalism. “I love the fact that Art Nouveau. Was influenced by Japenese art, so that it is very organic, and nothing is symmetrical,” she said. Among her offerings will be an exquisite
Austrian Art Nouveau Amphora Pheasant Vase with wonderful detail and an elegant pheasant perched on the side, with tail sweeping out and around toward the bottom of the piece. Michael Pashby Antiques deals in fine quality English Antiques and Decorative Arts, items that combine rarity, beautiful design, excellent craftsmanship and ingenuity. Specializing in works from the mid 17th century to the late 19th century and has in stock good pieces of Georgian and regency period antiques furniture.
Ken Kellehner of Kellehner Fine Art looks forward to his second time exhibiting at the Alexandria show, especially since he grew up in the area. “I feel like I’m going home,” he said. His specialty is oil paintings, primarily European with the occasional American example, and if he finds an exceptional watercolor he will have that as well. Describing his paintings, he said, “The business has changed so much that I have had to expand my inventory. I used to have mostly landscapes, but now I try to have outstanding examples of every type of painting: figurative, modernism, genre scenes.” Many of the paintings are purchased in Belgium, where Kelleher says that modernism began in the late 19th century.
Elinor Penna, from New York, is an expert in Victorian Staffordshire figures, and will bring pieces with a hunting theme to the show. Among her offerings will be her own personal collection of Victorian foxes. There are spill vases, groups, and watch holders. “I will have a baker’s dozen of foxes,” she said, “as well as a variety of hunting dogs; pointers, setters and hounds.”
John Rogers Antiques hails from New London, New Hampshire. This will be his first time exhibiting at the Alexandria Antiques Show, and he will be showing mostly “things that hang on the wall. Windows and doors from China are hung like paintings, and exhibit beautiful design and craftsmanship,” he explained. He is working on a book on this subject. When asked if he goes to China to buy, he said, “I have a Chinese business partner, and I find that if I accompany him while he is buying, the price goes up, so I leave most of the buying to him.”
Howard Price Fine Art will be coming to Alexandria from Boynton Beach, Florida. He sells fine art prints covering such categories as Americana, Botanical, Historical, Native American, Sporting, Maps, and others, as well as select fine watercolors.
Susan Barr will exhibit, with copper, furniture and nautical antiques, and Wellesley House from Lake Forest, IL whose most recent line of acquisitions has focused on Advertisements, from published Signs, to original Artist Proofs. Among these are ads for Guinness, Bell’s Whiskey, Berry Bros. Champagne, Johnnie Walker Whiskey, and Player’s Cigarettes. Robert Quilter of Baltimore will show fine art, and Bob Baker of Poverty Hollow Antiques will have decorative items and statuary.
The dealers set up in room settings, and as customers wander through the booths and down the aisles, they will have a unique opportunity to experience and purchase some of the finest antiques available from some of the best dealers in the country. Historic Alexandria is an area just outside Washington DC that is rich with history and early buildings, not to mention fine restaurants. This is an opportunity not to miss!

The central character of this window is "Lu" made up of a bird (probably phoenix) a deer and a pine tree. Lu was the god of wealth and status derived from holding official position. In turn, the phoenix symbolizes peace, the deer and the pine tree both suggest immortality. The smaller carvings are of dragons (protection), birds and flowers.

In 2010, JMK Shows, headed by Allison Kohler, took over the famous Atlantic City Antiques Show after the previous owners decided not to run it any more. Under Kohler’s direction, this ever-popular show continues to have an immense diversity of merchandise, a high energy level, and is always well-attended. Under the previous management the show ran twice a year, but for the past two years JMK has only held the show once a year in March. Kohler decided to revive the fall show this year, and it will run October 13-14, and promises to be better than ever. “We’ve been working tirelessly to revitalize, reinvigorate, and re-establish what was once a major event that collectors from all over the world attended. The Governor’s Office of New Jersey has also been running a major campaign to recreate Atlantic City into a major resort destination.”
Kohler is known to have more than just rows of booths at her shows. There are always special features, and Atlantic City is no exception. Wade Nulton will be on hand for a glass repair clinic. Wade can make all of your chipped and damaged glass new and usable again. From grinding off rough edges to replacing stoppers in perfume bottles, Wade’s work is done with precision and artistry. He also has a technique to restore “sick” glass—glass that has turned milky or cloudy. With his special tumbling method, he can bring it back to its original clear surface.
Another feature will be a panel of appraisers, who will value your treasures for $5.00 each. Linda Roberts of White Orchid Appraisals LLC is an accredited appraiser in the International Society of Appraisers, and can help with items in many different categories. Dorothy Hunt is a specialist with 35 years’ experience in valuing and auctioning dolls. She is the owner and head auctioneer of Sweetbriar Auctions, which holds doll auctions regularly in the New Jersey area..
There will be many booths filled with traditional antiques as well as toys, dolls and collectibles, and jewelry.
Bruce Horton and his partner, Daniel Charest, of Bridgeport, PA, will be exhibitng their usual eclectic display of period fine art, furniture, bronzes and decorative art. They have been buying and selling antiques for over 25 years and are primarily show dealers.
Bernice Conn of Voorhees, NJ will have an interesting display featuring vanity items. These include powder bowls, rouge jars, scent bottles, and other items that appear on a ladies’ vanity. “In the Victorian period they were sterling, Edwardians used tortoise, and the art deco period was enamel,” she explained. She will also be showing walking sticks, student lamps, small furniture, oil paintings and samplers. This will be her first time back after an absence of several years.
Judith and George Locher are from Akron, OH, and will be highlighting a wonderful 3 piece Old Paris Porcelain mantel set, c. 1840. They will also be showing a 33” tall Satsuma vase, a charming figure of a baby made out of Parian, sleeping in a little brass bed. They will be showing bronzes and clocks and a collection of small jeweled trinket boxes.
Scott Rosemnam is a specialist in vintage advertising, and his display will include vintage serving trays, thermometers, product displays, calendars, pocket mirrors, and porcelain, tin and cardboard signs. He is one of the foremost dealers in the country in Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola items. Everything he has is 100% original and dates from 1890-1950. He has been doing the Atlantic City show since 1996.
Obnoxious Antiques, run by John Polito of Burlington, NJ, likes things unusual and strange. He’s been dealing for over 40 years, and carries carnival items, circus memorabilia, gambling machines, fiberglass animals, and coin operated machines. “Probably what people don’t think much about buying or selling, we buy and sell,” he said. And to prove his point, he listed some of the items he will have in his display, including a large fiberglass gorilla (which came along with some elephants, birds and snakes) from the “Rain Forest Car Wash” in the Midwest. He will also have a collection of vintage puppets which were purchased from a third-generation puppeteer, and a porcelain hand dryer that was used in a public rest room in the 1930s. “It’s still functional,” he quipped.
The partners of Gardner Burke Antiques are sisters, and share a passion for hand painted porcelain. Their specialties are Limoges, American Belleek, Pickard, other hand painted porcelain, and crystal, which includes vases, perfume bottles and glassware. They set up a booth with an array of this fine china and glass, and pride themselves on their knowledge, which shines through as they share their wares with the public. Another specialist in pottery is Barbara Gerr Antiques, who, with her partner Arnie Small, have been exhibitors at Atlantic City since 1995. They deal in American Art Pottery, specializing in Roseville, Weller, Rookwood, Newcomb and Grueby. They also carry a large selection of arts and crafts pottery, Pilin pottery, southern pottery, and oak framed arts and crafts tiles. They will be featuring some examples of Newcomb College pottery, including a rare 6” vase in a classic large ball form, decorated in signature Newcomb moon and moss style, and glazed in a gorgeous rich deep blue and lavender combination. Not only is it marked with the Newcomb College cipher on the base, but it also has its original paper label with the date code for 1932.
Sharon Wendrow of Bayside, NY, has been doing Atlantic City for at least 20 years. Her business is “Memory Lane” and she specializes in dolls, toys, and some World’s Fair material. Among her offerings will be a Thumbelina doll in its original box. Thumbelinas were made by Ideal Toy Company, who also made Shirley Temple, Tammy, Judy Garland, and Deanna Durbin dolls. The Thumbelina, from the late 1960s, has a button that you turn and the doll wiggles just like a real baby. This was very innovative for its time. Wendrow will also be bringing Ginny dolls, Alexander dolls in their original boxes, several Anna Lee dolls from the 1980s plus a large group of other dolls and toys.
Many dealers with toys, jewelry, silver, crystal, pottery, and all sorts of collectibles will exhibit at this exciting venue. This is truly the show where discoveries can be made, and whatever you are looking for, you will most likely find.
The show is at the Atlantic City Convention Center at One Convention Boulevard, Atlantic City, NJ. For more information go to jmkshows.com .

The Morristown Armory Antiques Show will be held October 27 and 28 at 430 Western Avenue in Morristown, NJ. This is an extremely popular show for collectors of all types of antiques. Over 100 exhibitors will have their wares on display, covering a broad spectrum of merchandise, from American, European and Asian furniture to art glass, prints and posters, and vintage fashions. Are you looking for silver, porcelain, lamps, oriental rugs, scientific instruments, and netsuke. The Morristown show is known for its wide variety and affordable prices.
Morristown is one of the longest-running antiques shows in New Jersey, in an historic area featuring Revolutionary War sites which include Washington’s headquarters from December 1779 to June of 1780, all the way up to fabulous Victorian and Gothic Revival homes.
The show is always popular for its high energy, constant crowds of attendees, and always a “buzz” on the show floor. There will be several special features. Paul Nulton will be on hand for a glass repair clinic. Paul can make all of your chipped and damaged glass new and usable again. From grinding off rough edges to replacing stoppers in perfume bottles, Paul’s work is done with precision and artistry. He also has a technique to restore “sick” glass—glass that has turned milky or cloudy. With his special tumbling method, he can bring it back to its original clear surface.
Another expert who will be on hand during the show is Louis Pirello, whose business is named “Restorations by Louis.” He specializes in pottery and porcelain restoration, and prides himself on his meticulous methods of matching colors and glazes. Unlike many restorers, he assures his clients that he will not discolor or overspray their valued pieces.
Always popular is Linda Roberts of White Orchid Appraisals LLC, who will be on hand to appraise your treasures for a fee of $5.00. She is an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers, and has 20 years’ experience in the antiques and appraisal field.
Returning to the show after an absence of five years is Michael Millard, whose business is Vent D’Est, and Akin Kolawole who owns Embellish Antiques. Akin had participated in the Morristown Antiques Show for about 15 years, and had a shop on Boston’s famous Charles Street, which has been known for its antiques shops for nearly a century. He moved to Chapel Hill, NC and quit his business for five years, running a FedEx route in the interim. “After the last Christmas, when I was getting home every night at 8 or 9:00, I decided that was enough, so I sold the route and returned full time to antiques,” he said. Morristown will be his first show in the Northeast since he came back into the business. He has just returned from France with a large container of art deco furniture and accessories, and will be setting up an intriguing booth with all of his new finds.
Charles Bruel and his wife Lori, Glenmont, NY, are five year veterans of the show. Lori recounted the adventure of a big snowstorm at last year’s show. “The armory lost power, as all of the trees came down in the area, bringing down the wires as well. We thought we’d have to spend the night in the Armory. Allison (Kohler) was terrific. She kept everyone calm, trying to figure out how to handle the evening if we had to stay. She checked to see who had food and beverages so we wouldn’t go hungry. Finally they cleared a road so we could all go back to our motels, but we all trooped back to the armory the next day. There still wasn’t any power there, but we managed to have a decent show anyway.” She continued with her comments on the show: “the people who come to the Morristown show are very knowledgeable; perhaps more so than any other show we do.” The Breuels will be bringing clocks, artwork and boxes. An oil on canvas board signed by Cecil Chichester is evocative of last year’s snow storm. Chichester was a prominent member of the Woodstock Art Colony, and this painting is done in an impressionistic style with lovely muted colors. They will also be featuring a German tall clock with a mahogany case in solid mahogany featuring cross band and floral inlays; a broken arch pediment with turned wood finial; ogee feet; beveled glass door; an 8 day 3 weight movement and a musical chime on 5 tubes. The brass dial has pierced spandrels, a moon phase disc, a seconds bit and calendar, and best of all, it’s in excellent running condition.
Zane Moss, New York, NY, will be exhibiting a varied selection of fine 18th and 19th century furniture and wonderful accessories, paintings, porcelain, One of his specialties is Staffordshire animals from the 19th century, and Moss has one of the largest selections available. Included in his display will be a rare pair of elephant spill vases, circa 1860. The elephants were based on the famous “Jumbo” who was an African elephant, sold to P.T. Barnum in 1860 for $10,000. Also featured in Moss’ booth will be a number of Black Forest carvings. Most people think of Black Forest carvings as bears, but Moss will be showing dogs, owls, roosters, and even a carved boar’s head mounted onto a pipe rack.
Katherine King of King Art, Milwaukee, WI, specializes in fine art from the 16th to the 20th century. One of her featured items at the show will be an oil on canvas by Edward Redfield (1865-1965) showing another snow scene in the impressionist style. Redfield was a premier painter of the New Hope School of American Impressionism, and, in his time, was considered one of the best landscape painters in the country. Throughout his career, he won many awards for his art, including a bronze medal at the Paris Exposition of 1900, a bronze medal at the Pan-American Exposition in 1901, the Gold Medal of Honor in 1907, a silver medal in 1904 from the St. Louis Exposition, and many more. His works can be found in most major American museums.
Essex Antiquarians of Essex, MA, will be showing 18th and 19th century Amreican, English, Continental and Asian antiques, featuring period furniture and fine and decorative arts. A recent find, according to partner Rick Bevilaqua, is a ship portrait of the bark “Respigadera” of Liverpool, England, painted by Francis Hustwick (British, 1797-1865), It is most interesting because the work of this 19th century artist has only recently come to light. Many of his works are not signed, and it is hypothesized that he worked part time for another artist (perhaps Joseph Heard), so that when he had his own commissions, he was forbidden to sign his name lest Heard should lose a client. Interestingly, the portraits of American ships that have been discovered are nearly all signed by Hustwick. Hustwick lived in a somewhat seedy section of Liverpool, where he had moved from Hull. It is assumed that there was far more work to be done in the port of Liverpool.
Other dealers in fine art include Nicholas DiBenedetto from East Quogue, NY; Patrick Hastings of PA; Art and Antique Gallery from MA; Jaffe & Thurston of NY; and Tradewinds of RI. There will also be four exhibitors with prints: Joyce Krieg, Yosha Graphics, Antique Prints & Paper, and Maile Allen.
Brad Reh of Southampton, NY will be displaying his wonderful high end estate jewelry, and Lady Bag International will be showing vintage and designer handbags. David Pownall Willis will be exhibiting his usual breathtaking display of rare 18th and early 19th century porcelain, pottery and silver.
There will be exhibitors with art glass, nautical items, Louis Icart prints, furniture, Asian art, porcelain and furniture. The Morristown Armory Antiques Show has something for everyone, and is definitely worth the trip.

JMK Shows is proud to announce their 40th year in the antiques show management business. The very first show was staged in June of 1972. The company was founded by Rona and Jesse Kohler, who sought to provide shows that had quality antiques paired with affordable prices. The Kohlers had worked with several charities, including UNICEF, the American Cancer Society, and the Lion’s Club, running antiques shows. Everything changed when, in 1972, several dealers who had done their charity shows approached the couple and asked them if they would take over the Meadowbrook, NJ, show, which needed a new manager. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Meadowbrook changed from a dinner theater to a disco in the late ‘70s, and the manager took a new job at a place called Birchwood Manor. the show continues in that location to this day. It was listed in CountryHome Magazine as one of the “100 Hot Antiques Shows” in America.
In a reminiscent mood, Rona Kohler told of the days when Governor Kean issued a proclamation declaring “Antiques Appreciation Days” for the state of New Jersey, in commemoration of Birchwood Manor, the state’s oldest show. He arrived at the show in his limousine with his security guards. This was in the 1980s, and the tradition continued for several years during the dates of Birchwood Manor. “We always dressed up for our shows,” said Mrs. Kohler. “Jesse wore a tux and I wore an evening gown. The show had an elegant look, and so did we.” She added, “We always required our dealers to give a guarantee—I think we were the first ones to do this.”
In 2001 their daughter, Allison, took the reins, and is now president of JMK. .She has worked diligently to build on the foundation created by her parents and now has fourteen antiques shows plus some beer festivals.
The shows cover every possible aspect of the antiques and collectibles market, and include higher end venues such as Alexandria, Virginia, White Plains, New York, Sarasota, Florida, and Morristown, New Jersey. On the other end of the spectrum is Atlantic City, where almost anything can be found, from 18th century candlesticks to vintage toys to jewelry to 1950s lunchboxes. The always popular Doll and Teddy Bear Show is held annually in November in Teaneck, New Jersey. Many of the shows have extra features. In the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut shows, there are glass and china restorers, as well as certified appraisers to help people value their treasures.
From the exhibitors’ point of view, JMK provides extensive advertising and publicity, always with the dealers’ success in mind. “If the dealers don’t do well, they won’t come back, and then there is no show,” said Kohler. “We do everything we can to make the dealers welcome and comfortable at our shows.” If an exhibitor has an anniversary or a birthday, there will always be a friendly acknowledgment of the event....a lovely wine basket or a birthday cake. This is a tradition begun by Rona and Jesse Kohler. They would even cook a Thanksgiving dinner for the dealers during their Thanksgiving show, and would throw a New Year’s party for the exhibitors at the New Year’s show. And from the point of view of the public, Allison Kohler is always there to greet the customers with a smile, and bid them farewell as they are leaving.
Allison Kohler is one of the most enthusiastic young show managers in the business. Her passion for what she does, and her obvious affection for the people she works with, add up to a winning combination that communicates itself to both her exhibitors and the public.

JMK SHOWS ADDS NEW SHOW DATES FOR ADDITIONAL ATLANTIC CITY ANTIQUES SHOW
October 13 & 14, 2012
Click here for Word version of press release. Click here for show page.
Just over 3 years ago Allison Kohler of JMK SHOWS successfully revived a long running show that had fallen upon hard times. She promised that she would improve the show’s quality, restore it’s once excellent image, dramatically change it’s advertising, and breathe a new life and vitality into its remains. She has done that and much, much more. The Atlantic City Antiques Show has once again become an important, well attended, highly successful collector’s event in one of the most exciting destination cities in the nation. From it’s initial reincarnation 3 years ago to it’s most recent presentation this past March, the show has grown significantly in all it’s important aspects – more exhibitors, better quality and diversity among the exhibitors, an expanding audience that has grown exponentially each year, and an energetic, responsive management team that has fulfilled all of it’s initial promises - and more. (They have even found a way to reduce exhibitor’s costs, so that they could show a profit in an economy where that is not always possible).
With attendance surging so significantly from the minute the doors opened at the recent March show, and exhibitor sales showing so much vitality, JMK SHOWS management staff found itself being deluged with requests for an additional show during the Fall buying season. Requests came from optimistic exhibitors, as well as their customers. They felt the market was on it’s way back and that Atlantic City could easily sustain a second show.
Officials from the Convention Center and from the A/C Convention & Visitors Bureau reacted to the increased attendance. Their reaction to this observation was most favorable & they wasted no time in securing viable dates for a show on Oct. 13 & 14, 2012. By late Sunday morning Contracts for the Fall Atlantic City Antiques Show were being distributed to the exhibitors. Within an hour exhibitors started bringing their completed Contracts back into the show office in order to secure their 1st choice booths. Like an avalanche, word quickly spread throughout the exhibit hall about the Fall dates, and a great energy seemed to envelope everyone in the hall, with sales continuing unabated till the show ended at 5pm.
Allison Kohler, managing director of JMK Shows is a determined, hard working, tireless young lady who takes great pride in all of her endeavors. Her energy and enthusiasm know no limits. She is determined to make the Atlantic City Antiques Show a resounding success, and those who know her are convinced that she will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Plans are already in progress for a huge marketing & advertising campaign designed to lure a greater variety of specialized collectibles dealers and their collector customers into the show. Dealers that specialize in such items as toys, dolls, teddy bears, vintage fashions, textiles, advertising, antiquarian books, ephemera, lighting, photography, posters, prints, paintings & sculpture, vintage phonographs & radios, art deco & nouveau, modernism, post cards, sports cards, comic art & action figures, all kinds of jewelry, art pottery, Oriental rugs, all types of furniture, Orientalia, cut glass, ceramics, decorative arts, & much more. The emphasis will be on quality items and attractive displays with an across-the-board variety of merchandise to satisfy every collector’s tastes. It will be a show in which a person could conceivably find virtually any rarity, from a tiny delicate button to a mammoth 3 dimensional advertising robot.
The October show will also contain the popular Expert Appraisal Center and Restoration Clinics. The aisles will be wide enough to enable wheel chair access and comfortable walking accessibility to all of the exhibitors’ booths.. The conveniently located Food Court will offer a variety of popular food items from snacks to full meals, including an assortment of beverages.
To demonstrate their support & overwhelming satisfaction with the show’s management and growth over the last 3 years, under JMK SHOWS, the Convention & Visitors Bureau has used their considerable influence to secure special discounted room rates and other “perks” for the show’s exhibitors and visitors. They have arranged for the distribution of complimentary VIP tickets to many influential persons & affluent “high rollers” frequenting the casinos & better hotel properties, have allocated special promotional funds and have reserved key billboard locations in and around Atlantic City to supplement the show’s already extensive promotional efforts.
For complete show related information and Exhibitor Contracts contact JMK SHOWS as soon as possible at 973-927-2794 or go to their website which contains information about all of their marvelous, outstanding events.

Exhibitor Spotlight:
The Atlantic City Antiques Show is an Experience not to be Missed:
March 10-11
Click here for Word version of press release.
The Atlantic City Antiques Show returns for a third successful year to the Atlantic City Convention Center on March 10-11. Anxiously anticipated by exhibitors and collectors alike, the show is managed by JMK Shows & Events and will feature a shopping experience that is not to be missed. The show encompasses more than 250,000 square feet and comes packed with hundreds of dealers featuring an array of inventory that represents the ultimate treasure hunt for collectors of everything from Barbie to the Barbizon School.
Antiques and collectibles of all types will be on display including furniture, toys, dolls, art, advertising, vintage fashions, Art Deco, lighting, ephemera, jewelry, memorabilia of all types, and much more.
One of the most exciting aspects of the show will be the Appraisal Center featuring appraisals by four prominent experts in antiques and collectibles. Leading the team is Linda Roberts of White Orchid Appraisals from Delaware County, PA. Linda has been appraising for over twenty years and understands a broad range of objects from jewelry to furnishings to decorative arts. “We run a great appraisal clinic,” she says. “There isn’t much that we can’t handle; and we’ve had some really great things come in over the years.”
Also on the appraisal team is Cindy Charleston Rosenberg, a certified art appraiser specializing in American and European art from the Art Appraisal Firm, Elkin’s Park, PA. Doll and toy specialist Dorothy Hunt from Sweetbriar Auctions, Earlville, MD brings 22 years experience to the team, and William Bunch from Bill Bunch Auctions & Appraisals, Chadds Ford, PA brings knowledge in art glass, rugs, Civil War relics, books, manuscripts, silver, maps, prints, and other categories. Dealers and collectors alike are encouraged to consult this panel of experts to discover the inner secrets of their attic treasures for just five dollars per item.
“Dating objects is the first step in guaranteeing merchandise,” advised Ms. Roberts. “Value is also contingent on time and place and is always changing; it often takes experts to help guide the public, and we’ll be in Atlantic City to help.” Roberts advises visitors that if they can’t bring an object to the clinic because of size, that they will be happy to work from a photograph. She suggests that people not be worried about a long line for appraisals. Everybody will get a number and can shop the show while waiting their turn to work with an expert.
Returning buyers are in for a feast for the eyes with an array of antiques and collectibles for just about everybody. Exhibitor highlights include authentic Tiffany, Steuben, Quezal, Durand, and Gallé art glass presented by Allan Teal & Dottie Freman of Chester Heights, PA who have specialized in Tiffany and Steuben for over 35 years. Another long-standing expert with 35 years’ experience is Van Anda’s Antiques carrying Victorian figural napkin rings and patriotic jewelry from the World War II period. Proprietor Sandra Whitson has written books on both of these categories. The show will have an impressive array of distinguished, nationally prominent antiques dealers, many of whom have successfully exhibited in the show before. “It is my intention to fill all the available exhibit space with outstanding examples of antique furnishings and decorative accessories, fine paintings, prints and sculptures, rare porcelain, pottery and glass, oriental rugs, silver, exquisite antique and estate jewelry, and so much more from the exceptional to the extraordinary.” said an enthusiastic Allison Kohler as she related how impressed she was by the magnificence of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, and how “perfect” a setting it was for a show of this caliber. “The show will be a tribute to the rich heritage and traditions of Alexandria while at the same time it will be on the cutting edge of appreciating, living and decorating with antiques” she concluded.
Perched 330 feet high, atop Shuter’s Hill, at the upper end of King Street, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, at 101 Callahan Drive, Alexandria, VA, is much more than a colossal memorial and museum just a few minutes from the nation’s capital, it is a major tourist attraction and destination honoring and perpetuating the memory of our nation’s first president. It provides ample on-site parking and can easily be reached by car via major roadways serving the DC area, as well as by public transportation to the King St. stop on the blue and yellow lines of the Washington Metro.
This newly announced addition of the Alexandria Antiques Show to the existing roster of other successful, exceptional quality JMK Antiques Shows marks the 4th major expansion in the last year for this 45 year old, second generation show management company. JMK Shows appears to have found the right formula to successfully expand their show operations while keeping their exhibitors happy and satisfying their collecting audiences. A feat to marvel at during these on-going difficult economic times, as witnessed by their recently successful revival of the Northern Virginia Antiques Show sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Arlington, Virginia, and their outstanding White Plains Antiques Show at the Westchester County Center in New York State. Could the answer to the run of successful antiques shows lie in Allison Kohler’s honest-to-goodness concern for her exhibitors’ welfare, or could it be in her contagious passion for the antiques shows? Whatever it is, she’s not talking.

A Nineteenth Century New York Christmas
Loan Exhibit at JMK’s Metropolitan Pavilion Show
JMK’s Antiques & Fine Art Show at the Metropolitan Pavilion New York City debuts on December 9, 10, & 11. The new show features 70 quality exhibitors with a diverse range of antiques and decorative arts as well as a special Christmas loan exhibit, “A Nineteenth Century New York Christmas,” by one of its sponsors, the National Christmas Center in Paradise, Pennsylvania.
New York City is never more exciting than at Christmas time, and the magic of Christmas in New York is exactly what the National Christmas Center wants to recreate for visitors to the show. “I remember going to bed with an empty stocking hoping to see Santa,” the Center’s Curator and Historian Jim Morrison spoke with enthusiasm. “In the morning the tree was up, my stocking was lying beside me all filled up with goodies, and it was just an incredible time. I never got over it.”
He describes his loan exhibit for the Metropolitan Pavilion as all about memories and fantasy and the wonder of Christmas past, and he invites the public to come and relive their memories as they see the exhibits. “The two-dimensional storybook becomes the three-dimensional through a park vignette featuring several figures including a snowman and a teddy bear band sitting in a red sleigh. These mechanical department store figures recreate the magic of Christmas for kids of all ages. “It’s all about memories,” Morrison tells. “And when people visit this collection of memorabilia celebrating Christmases of New York past, they will rediscover their own memories.”
The evolution of the American Santa Claus will unfold though a display that includes a picture of the first American Santa circa 1810 from the New York Historical Society. On display will be images from the 1820s and 1830s and depictions by Thomas Nast in the 1890’s. Morrison tells that it wasn’t until the Nast drawings that children started seeing the Santa we know today.
The exhibit will include a gallery of depictions of Christmas in nineteenth century New York City. Engravings from Harper’s and other sources illustrate sleighing in Central Park, shopping on Fifth Avenue, and other metropolitan holiday views. In a central exhibit is a Christmas garden featuring a large Victorian Christmas tree on a platform with a Lionel train and folk art village beneath. Morrison likens this part of the exhibit to the memorable displays he helped create at the Gotham Book Mart on West 47th Street years ago. Holiday tunes will be played by Sweet Harmony www.sweetharmony.com in the loan area throughout the weekend.
“We are proud to bring to the public the first ever loan exhibit from the National Christmas Center to an antiques show,” announced Alison Kohler, Director of JMK Shows. “And we welcome new and old clients alike to this wonderful facility at this magical time of year.” The Metropolitan Pavilion is conveniently located at 125 West 18th Street, New York, NY. For further information, contact Allison Kohler at JMK Shows & Events, 6 Pilgrim Drive, Succasunna, NJ 07876, (973) 927-2794, jmkshows@aol.com, www.jmkshows.com. Antiques at Teaneck Armory
JMK to Select Diversified Exhibitors for Teaneck Show
An exciting new antiques show will open at the Teaneck Armory in Teaneck, NJ on April 14-15, 2012 announced Allison Kohler, Director of JMK Shows & Events. The 2-day show will feature 150 diversified exhibitors in a spacious quality setting with a selection of walled and pipe and drape booths available. Merchandise will range from choice American and Continental furniture to paintings, prints, ceramics, silver, glass, fine jewelry, art pottery, Asian antiques, and decorative accessories. Show hours are on Saturday from 10-5 and on Sunday from 11-5 and admission is eight dollars.
“Teaneck is an area with an affluent customer who is interested in antiques,” commented Kohler. “This part of New Jersey no longer retains the quality shows that at one time were more frequent, so we expect the public to react strongly to this event.” The Teaneck Armory is conveniently located off Route 4 at 1799 Teaneck and Liberty Road, just three miles from the George Washington Bridge.
JMK is in the process of selecting quality dealers for this show. Management stresses that contracts will be available by invitation only, but dealer inquiries will be welcomed. “We have many requests to do the show, and will consider every inquiry,” said Kohler. “Our major concern in dealer selection is to create balance and diversity of merchandise for our buying public.” She said further that this is the time to keep dealers working and making money. “The JMK business model is to keep shows affordable for exhibitors and this event is a well-managed show at a great location with easy load-in at a very good time of year.”
The public’s trust in JMK’s shows and its exhibitors is very important. To re-enforce that trust, Antiques at Teaneck Armory will provide a certified appraisal clinic for the public’s use at five dollars per item, as well as museum quality restoration services. Glass restorations will be provided by Paul Nulton and expert porcelain and pottery restoration by Louis. Visiting the show will be educational and enjoyable as well as a friendly and inviting experience.
Teaneck, New Jersey is the latest venture from JMK Shows who recently revived several shows including the Atlantic City Antiques Show, The Northern Virginia Antiques Show & The White Plains Antiques Show. The firm is dedicated to bringing well-executed and cost effective events to the general public. An extensive advertising campaign stands behind the show and show cards will soon be in the hands of exhibitors. JMK Antiques Shows are established venues with a great track record in the industry. JMK maintains an extensive mailing list as well as an email list and prides itself in being responsive to attendee and dealer needs. “We know that our business depends on good relationships,” reminded Kohler. “We want our customers and exhibitors to know that fulfilling their needs is of paramount importance to us.”

Excellent Turnout:
Successful Atlantic City Antiques & Collectors Show Debut on March 27-28
Long anticipated by exhibitors and collectors alike, the new Atlantic City Antiques & Collectors Show managed by JMK Shows & Events was a shopping experience that was not to be missed. Attendees of the debut on March 27-28 found the show much improved in quality, layout, and merchandise integrity. Exit comments were positive with both collectors and exhibitors very happy over purchases. Outstanding sales categories included art, American and Continental furniture, toys, metal ware, pottery, Asian arts, and Modernism.
Promotional vehicles emphasized a very successful Appraisal Center with a team of experts that included TV and Radio personality Harry Rinker. Rinker’s Sunday morning call-in radio program, “Whatcha Got” was performed from the floor of the antiques show featuring six exhibitors selected from the show. Over 500 collectors were in line for the 8:30 Am opening, and for general admission at 10:00 Am another 700 people were waiting to enter the show.
“We’ve made a good start,” said director, Allison Kohler. “Restoring the integrity of the merchandise and rebuilding the show as a whole was greeted with enthusiasm by dealers and the public alike.” She added that she now has an entire year to generate more energy to bring Atlantic City through the roof.
Plans for next year’s Atlantic City Antiques & Collectors Show on March 19 & 20, 2011, are well under way. The event will follow the popular March Pier Shows with 50% of this year’s vendors already re-booked. Convention Center floor manager Larry Ross commented that dealers appreciated the easiest load-in that he’s experienced in twenty years at the facility.
Kohler plans to make the show a destination. Meetings with casino officials will result in new and different hotel packages including gaming and restaurant perks, and a $500 shopping spree for one lucky attendee. Atlantic City’s casinos will be actively involved in planning events for next spring’s show.
“We were so successful,” said Kohler, “that now is the time for interested dealers to join us for next year’s show.” Booth sizes start at 10 ½ x 12 feet; many are 16 foot booths or larger with custom sizes and fully walled booths available. The show encompasses more than 250,000 square feet and comes packed with hundreds of dealers featuring an array of inventory that represents the ultimate treasure hunt for collectors of everything from Barbie to the Barbizon School.
“We want our customers to know that Atlantic City is one of the best places to buy; we’re thrilled about the debut of our new Atlantic City Antiques & Collectors Show and encourage the public to join us again next year in celebrating four hundred years of antiques and design.”
Show hours are 10 Am to 6 Pm on Saturday and 11 Am to 5 Pm on Sunday with early buying from 9 Am to 10 Am on Saturday. Admission for early buying is $30 and includes a weekend pass.

ALLISON KOHLER, JMK SHOWS, CHOSEN TO PRODUCE THE NEW
ATLANTIC CITY ANTIQUES AND COLLECTORS SHOW
Atlantic City, NJ — It was a dark day in September that sent shockwaves coast to coast throughout the antiques industry when F&W announced the cancellation of the long-running Atlantique City Antiques Show. While the show had been in a downward spiral for the past several years, ultimately becoming not much more than a table-top collectibles show, many remembered it as the “grand-daddy” of this country’s antiques shows. Anybody who was anybody in the business had at one time or another, “set up” at Atlantique City, and, in its prime, had all exhibition halls filled with thousands of fine dealers and even more buyers. While the show became much less than that in the past few years, Atlantic City still remains in our minds as the destination for the finest and largest of antique events.
Behind the scenes, since F & W’s announcement, the Atlantic City Convention Center had been interviewing and evaluating a number of promoters who could bring a show representative of the caliber it once was, back to that venue. On Friday, October 2, 2009, Allison Kohler (PHOTO), owner, JMK Events, received the call that she had been chosen to bring a new antique show to Atlantic City. Within hours, the new Atlantic City Antiques and Collectors Show was born and, in true Allison Kohler style, by the end of the day, the JMKShows website already had a new entry in their event listings: “March 27 & 28, 2010, The Atlantic City Antiques and Collectors Show!”
JMK Shows, under the leadership of Kohler, has earned the reputation of producing events of exceptional quality with a keen eye to ensuring and maintaining the integrity of the event, the dealers and the merchandise. JMK’s Sarasota Shows, their Doll Shows and their flagship Morristown Shows speak for themselves in the level of quality events they produce and we can expect nothing less for the new Atlantic City show.
At this writing and on the phone with Allison, multi-tasking as always, she was finalizing contracts, booking flights to various cities to begin the task of visiting all the major antique shows across the country, her attitude was pure excitement. The infectious sort of excitement that is part of her “get it done” determination. She is thrilled at the opportunity to bring Atlantic City back even better and stronger than it was before. Re-branded, re-invented and highly vetted, on March 27, 2010, the doors will swing wide to 250,000 square feet filled with the finest antiques and collectibles in the country.
Kohler will create an antiques shopping experience not to be missed. The two-day event will combine all the genres of antiques and collectibles in one spectacular location yet they will be separated within the venue. Antique furniture and furnishings in one area, toys and ephemera in another, vintage clothing will have its own designated section, as will fine art and dolls, etc. For one admission, attendees will be able to visit and shop from several specialty shows under one roof. For dealers, this means attractive booth pricing structures depending on their specialty. For the antiques industry in this county, this means the injection of energy and integrity that is long overdue.
“I am honored and welcome the opportunity to create, re-invent and re-brand an event of this caliber in Atlantic City,” said Kohler. Within days of the announcement, she was already working with decorators to create the look of the show, floor plans are being set and contracts are ready to roll.
Dealers interested in obtaining information about exhibiting at the new and exciting Atlantic City Antiques and Collectors Show should visit the JMK website at www.JMKSHows.com, email Allison Kohler directly at JMKShows@aol.com or call the offices of JMK at (973) 927-2794.

Lowery.ChippendaleHighboy.jpg: In superb condition, this well proportioned Chippendale Highboy (Massachusetts, Circa 1750-1775) stands as a statement of American cabinetwork. The bold original set of brass hardware creates a choice pattern dressing the rich walnut surface. Even the graduation of the drawers were favorably done to unite a sense of subtle beauty.
